Tuesday, April 4th, 2023:
With all races being determined, our coverage has been ended for this election. Our next election update, in addition to perhaps adding polling averages and other political projects, will be on May 16th or 17th, with the debut of my new 2023 Gubernatorial Forecast with Kentucky's race being the first featured.
Below you can see three different kinds of posts that will periodically appear on this page. The one that looks the most boring is just a generic text post, and will be used whenever I have some information to share. A "race projection" means I have determined that there is a winner, and you will see a snapshot of the current vote of when I call the race. A "race alert" will just be an update of a race, usually with some explainer text.
THE AP HAS CALLED THE RACE FOR PROTASIEWICZ. At this time, I have not officially projected her to win.
Too hard for me to keep up, so will focus on city/statewide races for now.
We just got the first batch of results for school board elections. Others should come shortly.
All unopposed races have been projected below. We should now see votes start to stream in from around the city & the state. Stay tuned.
The numbers you have been patiently waiting for...

We are just one hour away from getting results in statewide/city elections.
It is officially Election Night in Wisconsin, and polling places are set to close in 2 hours at 8 PM Central. They opened this morning at 7 AM. More updates to come.
Tonight's Wisconsin Supreme Court Race may come down to a few key counties, most notably the ones with higher turnout. The area that could have the most weight is Milwaukee county and it's surronding counties, including the reliably red Waukesha County. Janet Protasiewicz will have much better chances if she is able to do better in Waukesha County and generate high turnout in Milwaukee or Dane County. In terms of counties that could be an early indicator for how the state as a whole will sway, that would come down to the following. The number below is the 2020 margin and then the 2022 margin. (an average of the Senate & Gubernatorial races)
County | 2020 (Pres) | 2022 (Gov/Senate) | Change (2020-2022) |
---|---|---|---|
Green | D +3.2 | D +7.6 | D+ 4.4 |
Kenosha | R +3.2 | R +2.95 | D +0.25 |
Racine | R +4.1 | R +6.8 | R +2.7 |
Columbia | R +1.6 | R +6.8 | D +1.25 |
Sauk | D +1.7 | R +3.95 | D +2.25 |
Winnebago | R +3.9 | R +3.5 | D +0.4 |
Portage | D +2.8 | D +5.1 | D +2.3 |
Door | D +1.4 | D +2.6 | D +1.2 |
Ahead of the first election since the former President's indictment, Donald Trump is in custody in NYC ahead of his arraignment.
Polls statewide close in ten hours at 8 PM Central.
As of this morning, per @WI_Elections, 434,985 absentee and early votes have already come in for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election.

The previous pre-pandemic Spring election record, in 2019's Supreme Court race, was 147,141.
Expect huge turnout.
Wisconsin Democrats have accused Daniel Kelly's campaign of violating FCC regulation and causing unnecessary concern in a text message ad sent out to voters. The ad mimicked that of an emergency announcement used for things like tornadoes on TV, and has been criticized for potentially misleading voters.
There is still a potential for severe weather, including hail, strong winds, or tornadoes across Wisconsin. However, if any polling places were required to close due to severe conditions, a judge would likely grant an order extending voting hours to the next day if needed.
It is officially Election Day in Wisconsin, and polling places are set to close in 12 hours at 8 PM Central. They opened this morning at 7 AM. More updates to come.
